PROFAST @ S.K. SRI KEMUNTING: Mahasiswa Jurubicara Masyarakat

18 students and 6 members of staff took part in the Projek Fasilitator Siswa or PROFAST, a community service project which was held in Kampung Sri Kemunting, Mukim Lubuk Tembesu, District of Bachok, Kelantan Darul Naim from 7th to 9th of September 2007. PROFAST @ S.K. Sri Kemunting was organized by the Integrity and Leadership Unit (UNiK), Student and Alumni Affairs Department (JHEPA) in collaboration with the Kelantan State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Jelawat, the Education Office of the District of Bachok and was supported by the Ministry of Higher Education.

PROFAST @ S.K. The PROFAST team was entertained with delicious Kelantanese breakfast by YB. Dato' Dr. Ilias bin Hussain, ADUN for Jelawat at his residence in Kampung Pauh Lima, Gunong, Bachok upon their arrival from UMP on 7th of September. Later, our PROFAST team moved on to S.K. Sri Kemunting, 15 kilometers from Gunong, Bachok and was warmly received by the headmistress, teachers and the village folks. Our PROFAST team also had the opportunity to meet in person His Majesty the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Her Majesty Seri Paduka Raja Permaisuri Agong, His Royal Highness the al-Sultan of Kelantan and her Royal Highness the Raja Perempuan of Kelantan during the official launching of Royal Kelantan Endurance Ride 2007 which was held in Gunong on 7th of September.
Kampung Sri Kemunting is located at the most remote area in the District of Bachok and the majority of its 1,500 population earn their living by vegetable and tobacco farming with the household income of below RM 500.00 per month. Our PROFAST team, led by Mohd. Afiq bin Zali from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering also did a socio-economic research at Kampung Beoh and Kampung Haji Saman to study the problems of the village folks and prepared a paper based on their observations and findings in the field study with the recommendations to improve the socio-economic condition of the people of Sri Kemunting area.
The PROFAST team spent one full day with Year 5 students from S.K. Sri Kemunting on 8th of September and they shared a joyous and happy moment together doing various interactive modules and activities such as Ice Breaking, Art Attack, Station Game, English Is Fun and Sayang Si Buta. The modules were designed to motivate the students and to increase their confidence and self-esteem, which are the key factors that will determine their success in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) next year.
Dr. Hasan bin Ahmad, the Dean of JHEPA officiated the closing ceremony of PROFAST @ S.K. Sri Kemunting on 9th of September. He also presented the certificates of participation to the participants and a special plaque to the headmistress, recognizing S.K. Sri Kemunting as Rakan Pintar PROFAST UMP. Also present in the closing ceremony were En. Ghazali bin Hassan, Deputy Registrar of JHEPA; Pn. Rahani bin Mahktar, Headmistress of S.K. Sri Kemunting and Acting Chairman of S.K. Sri Kemunting's Parents-Teachers Association (PIBG).
